You won't be the same in 6 months

You won't be the same in 6 months

Six months is long enough to change your life — but not if you only focus on action and willpower.

Real transformation happens when you combine the outer work (consistent habits, focus, routines) with the inner work (shifting your thoughts, stories, and identity).

In this episode of This Daring Adventure, I share how to create momentum in your life by aligning your mindset with your actions — so you don’t keep spinning in circles or falling back into old patterns.

This is the first episode in our Inside-Out Reinvention mini-series, designed for women who feel stuck but know they’re meant for more.

You’ll learn:

  • Why six months is enough to see radical transformation
  • How your thoughts create your feelings, which drive your actions (and results)
  • A practical exercise to shift the story you’re telling yourself right now
  • What happens if you keep focusing only on the “outer work”
  • How to create a simple plan that actually sticks

If you’re ready to reinvent yourself — from the inside out — this episode will show you how to start today.

Trista:

This Daringeverybody. Welcome back to The Staring Adventure. So I wanted to do something a little bit different today and. I'm creating a little mini series called Inside Out Reinvention, and I thought I'm recording this on October 1st. It will be released tomorrow, October 2nd. So we have three months left of the year, and I was thinking that if there's something that you want to work on, you wanna change. If you don't wanna be the same in three months or six months, six months is a nice chunk of time, and I think it closes at the year and it starts the new year, which is a very powerful timeframe. So we can look at how we're going to create your new chapter and change, do the work so that. You're not the same in six months. Your life is not the same in six months from now, and here's how you do it. Alright? So it's not about hustling harder or adding more to your to-do list, but it's by combining a practical strategy with the inner work that makes real change possible. And in this first episode, we're talking about transformation. And I'm gonna use six months. You can try it in three months if you want, but let's say for the sake of argument that we're gonna do a six month project here. And so this is the timeframe that we're gonna work with. Now you may have heard advice like work hard, be consistent, and you'll change your life. And that's true. But here's the problem. Most women I coach, they're in their forties and fifties, have already worked hard and been consistent and push themselves, and yet they still feel stuck. So it's not just about the action. And today we're gonna look at the other half of the story, which is the inside work. Now let me start with why. I'm gonna go with six months, and the idea is simple. If you focus deeply and consistently on something meaningful, you can transform yourself in a short period of time. And six months can be long enough to see a dramatic change. You could learn a skill. You could write a draft of a book, you could start a business, get healthier, change your relationship with yourself. But here's the catch, if you don't change what's happening on the inside, six months from now, you'll probably just be in the same loop you're in today. Maybe with a new planner, a different routine or a list of goals that never really stuck. The truth is it's not just about what you do, it's about what you believe while you're doing it and who you become. And so we want to look at the role of our inner story. And it always starts with what we're thinking. Having that awareness and seeing what's going on in our brain, your thoughts are going to create your feelings. Your feelings drive your actions, and your actions will create your results. If your thought is, I'm too old to start over, how do you feel? probably discouraged, doubtful, maybe even defeated. And from that feeling, do you take bold, consistent action for six months? Probably not. You probably don't even start at all. But if your thought is six months from now, I'll thank myself for starting today. You feel hopeful, curious, motivated. From that feeling, you do take action and then you do create results, not perfectly, but consistently enough to see change. And so the question isn't just, what will I do for six months, but What will I believe about myself for six months? And who do I want to become? So let's put this into something practical here. Your first step is going to be to pick one thing you'd love to see change in six months. Maybe it's your health. It could be a creative project, it could be feeling more confident in your work or personal life. And so pick one thing, decide it really. In the grand scheme of things doesn't matter, but this is just gonna be your starting point. There's no right or wrong answer. Just pick one that you've been meaning to work on. Step two is to ask yourself, what's the default thought you currently have about that area? Is it, I always fail at this, it's too late. I don't know where to start. I don't have enough time. Pinpoint those thoughts that are your underlying beliefs. Step three is to notice how those thoughts make you feel. Discouraged. Overwhelmed, resigned. Now, step four is going to rewrite those sentences into something small but believable and something that feels better ideally, something energizing. It could be. It's possible I could do this. I can figure it out. Six months is gonna pass anyway. I may as well use it. So figure out which sentences, new thoughts, feel better. Again, you don't need to go to rainbows and daisies, but they need to feel a little bit better and they need to resonate in your body. How do they feel for you? Do you believe it? Does it feel okay? Does it feel like it's going to motivate you to take action? Write them down, keep them handy. And then step five is going to be to take the action that matches the new thought. You can start small micro steps, not a giant overwhelming leap, but decide what your next step is, and then you want to commit to that. You don't need a perfect plan, but you need a thought that fuels action and you need to repeat it daily for six months. Write these goal. write your goal down, write your new thoughts out, keep them handy. Review them every single day. That's important. Now, what happens if you don't do this? If you don't do the inside work, six months from now, you'll be right where you are today. Your brain just loves to repeat the patterns in the thought loops. Maybe you'll be more frustrated, maybe even, have a little less belief in yourself. But this is why so many women feel like they're spinning in circles. They do the action steps without upgrading the thought work. And then they wonder why they can't sustain it. And that's just like when we do New Year's resolutions, we start off, it's shiny, it's new, it's exciting, and then the work kicks in and the monotony and the day after day work, and it's not as much fun. And our brain gives us a story like, oh, maybe it's easier just to stay in bed. Or maybe it's easier just to lie on the couch and watch Netflix. You want to be aware of those stories and not give into them. Go back to your chosen intentional thought that you can do this, that you're figuring it out, that you want to be somewhere different in six months. You will have to remind yourself of this every single day. That's the work, but. If you do both the outer work and the inner work, the outer work of showing up and the inner work of shifting your thoughts, that's when you create momentum and that's when you reinvent yourself. Really think about who you want to be in six months. What is she thinking? What is she feeling? How would she show up and do this work? Make those choices that she made. I'll tell you, I was thinking about, I told a client this story the other day about how I'm trying to lose some weight and get fit and get back in shape. And so I've been running and doing all the things and I really needed to clean up my eating. And there were some fresh homemade blueberry muffins. I didn't make them, but there they were. And I had one and I wanted another, the old me would've had another, always a second blueberry. But in the moment I realized that the new me, the one who was in shape, who was eating the way I wanted to eat, and who was fit and exercising the way I wanted to exercise, was not eating that second blueberry muffin. And probably in the grand scheme of things, I could have eaten that blueberry muffin and it probably wouldn't have put the weight on, but it was a decision in that moment to be someone different, to be the person that I wanted to be. To make that change. It's a small thing, but it actually felt like a giant leap because in that moment I decided to be someone different. I decided to be the person that I wanted to be, not the old me who has a second muffin, and so you want to be making decisions like that. Who is she and what does she need to do? What is she just doing? And so you do that work, and that's when you start to create momentum, and that's when you start to reinvent yourself and write your next chapter. So here's your homework for this week. Choose one area you wanna change in the next six months. Write down your current default. Thought about it, replace it with a new one, a new thought that feels just a little bit more empowering. And practice that thought every single day while you take small, consistent actions, review your goal, review where you're going, practice your thought, and make decisions from the woman you will be at the end of the six months. That's how you start becoming a different version of yourself from the inside out. Action is just never enough. So this is episode one in our mini series Inside Out Reinvention. Next time we'll talk about how to design your life's next chapter instead of drifting into it. Alright. If you're interested in taking this work deeper, you can join us in You, Redefined.
